The big picture
Cambridge Quantum is seeking to hire three full-time NLP/ML research engineers to work with the Oxford-based QNLP team. Quantum NLP is a new field of research aimed at the design and implementation of NLP models that run on quantum hardware. The Research Engineers will be working primarily with Dr. Dimitrios Kartsaklis.
The Quantum Natural Language Processing (QNLP) team at Cambridge Quantum follows a two-stage process, involving (1) research, design, and development of models on classical hardware; and (2) transportation of the models to quantum hardware. The current positions are related to the first stage, which is the design, prototyping and implementation of “quantum-friendly” NLP models on classical hardware. While the second stage of transferring the models on quantum hardware is not in the main responsibilities of the roles, some form of collaboration between the successful candidate and the quantum-computing specialists of the group will be required.
Candidates are expected to have good NLP/ML experience and very strong programming skills in Python. A substantial part of the work for this role will involve contributions to the code base of the team, which is currently under development. Knowledge of tensor-based NLP approaches, such as the DisCoCat model and tensor networks, as well as some familiarity with mathematical models of meaning, is in general desirable.
